Adult Male Bernese Mountain Dog

Where do I even begin with this guy? I will try to describe to you who Xander is with my simple, meager words. I hope to do him justice!

Let's start with... he came from Italy. There is a breeder there whose dogs I greatly admire, and who has all the qualities I am looking for. We obtained Charm from her a few years previous (Mateo's mother). I've had several discussions with her about the possibility of obtaining one of her finest male puppies to come join us here in Washington state, with the potential to become a future stud dog for our program. She agreed after a while. And after a brief two year wait, Mr. Xander arrived on American soil. Even after such a long trip, he was tail-wagging and face-licking! Happy boy. And that is how he still is today! He is a tail-wagging, face-licking bundle of Pure Joy!

Xander does everything with Great Enthusiasm. He holds back nothing! He's not hyper, no, he's just Super Happy to go for walks, go for car rides, go to the vet, go to the lake—anything, you name it, Xander is good with it! His enthusiasm is contagious. Even people who have never met him before will say things like, "Well, you're sure a jolly fellow, aren't you?" As he stands there with his tail slapping his sides, smiling with all he's got, he's absolutely adorable and irresistible! Everybody loves him. Now, Xander is a short fellow. He's not real tall. But he makes up for it in substance! He is as thick as they come, has a lovely movement, and a gorgeous, masculine head!

He Loves toys! Oh my, yes. Many of our dogs don't give one hoot about a toy. Xander, on the other hand, is always looking for us to bring him new toys. If we don't, he will make up his own! Such as dish towels, chunks of wood and branches, buckets, pine cones, pretty much anything. He's creative, that's for sure. He doesn't tear them up, he tosses them into the air, drags them around and plays imaginary games with them. He is a hoot! Love, love his sense of humor!!!

Xander is always right by my side—he does not wander.

The minute we met Xander that wonderful day at the airport, our lives were changed for the Better! Because just being with Xander lightens a heart!
